I mostly ignore Rush, but I know the right wing and the Elefuggs in Congress kiss his golden boots, so when he says something this incendiary I get the RAGE! As an Asian-American male I know what this means. What pisses of the right wing so much about Obama is that he is NOT the "model minority." I know what Rush is trying to do here, it is always what he does. FEAR THE OTHER! Obama is a ferner because he has a view that is slightly to the left of center on somethings and that means he is also the second coming of Hitler and a hippy who wants socialism and an alien oooh and he is also a ferner being sent from an Africa tribe. So Obama is a Kenyan Muslim Manchurian President!

Last night the lady and I said "safe travels" to a long time friend as he is making the big move to Hollywood. Four years ago I trekked from Northern Virginia in a Toyota Corolla packed to the brim. My goal was "Sweet Home Chicago." I went for one reason, to get out and try something new. Scooter was my co-pilot. We hit up Chicago, lived near Wrigley, partied like none other, laughed more than ever, had our differences at times, gamed it up; most importantly he introduced me to my lady. Overall our friendship has sustained through the ups and downs of our contrasting lives and I wish him nothing but the best. The most rewarding part about our journey, however has been that Chicago ultimately led to us finding our specific callings. For those of you who have access to the Playstation Network I recommend watching Season 2 of the Tester (my insider information tells me its a good one) and root for Scooter as loud as you can. As for me, I will be heading out to Hollywood in about two to three years, ready to high five a brotha!

I don't nearly point this out enough. It's not easy being green. Just as poverty is an uphill battle the fight for effective climate change legislation is similarly daunting. The amount of corruption within the Big Oil companies and the support from sociopaths like suck navels named Newt Gingrich (and those in the GOP) makes communicating the real information to people difficult. This type of nonsense gets me fired up.

In part this is for lack of serious trying by his White House, but mostly because of the disinformation campaign pushed by Big Oil and corporate polluters and because the Republican Party has been captured by Big Oil, Big Polluters, and the Tea Party extremists, who themselves are backed by Big Oil , as discussed here.
The radicalization of the Republican Party is exemplified by the disgraced former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who back in 2007 was actually described as the “move to the pragmatic center on climate and energy,” by one NYT reporter. Obama the Point Maker
Obama recently was interviewed by Rolling Stone and he defends himself well against the teabaggers, Elefuggs, Blue Dogs, progressive outrage and firebaggers. He makes solid points throughout and doesn't come across condescending but confident. There seems to be a determined tone that his work is yet to be done. Now whether or not you agree with him is another thing (you can discuss in the comments of course), but this stood out to me:
What is true, and this is part of what can frustrate folks, is that over the past 20 months, we made a series of decisions that were focused on governance, and sometimes there was a conflict between governance and politics. So there were some areas where we could have picked a fight with Republicans that might have gotten our base feeling good, but would have resulted in us not getting legislation done.
I could have had a knock-down, drag-out fight on the public option that might have energized you and The Huffington Post, and we would not have health care legislation now. I could have taken certain positions on aspects of the financial regulatory bill, where we got 90 percent of what we set out to get, and I could have held out for that last 10 percent, and we wouldn't have a bill. You've got to make a set of decisions in terms of "What are we trying to do here? Are we trying to just keep everybody ginned up for the next election, or at some point do you try to win elections because you're actually trying to govern?" I made a decision early on in my presidency that if I had an opportunity to do things that would make a difference for years to come, I'm going to go ahead and take it.
I just made the announcement about Elizabeth Warren setting up our Consumer Finance Protection Bureau out in the Rose Garden, right before you came in. Here's an agency that has the potential to save consumers billions of dollars over the next 20 to 30 years — simple stuff like making sure that folks don't jack up your credit cards without you knowing about it, making sure that mortgage companies don't steer you to higher-rate mortgages because they're getting a kickback, making sure that payday loans aren't preying on poor people in ways that these folks don't understand. And you know what? That's what we say we stand for as progressives. If we can't take pleasure and satisfaction in concretely helping middle-class families and working-class families save money, get a college education, get health care — if that's not what we're about, then we shouldn't be in the business of politics. Then we're no better than the other side, because all we're thinking about is whether or not we're in power.
This is a man with a clear understanding of what legacy means. The choices he made throughout the processes of health care, financial reform and the stimulus were ones to effect not only the now, but future generations. He gets that. That is change, perhaps not the change some were sold, but it is certainly change I believe in.
With the upcoming election the importance of building on this legacy couldn't be more paramount. So, yeah perhaps Biden telling Democrats to stop whining isn't the spoon of sugar firebaggers want fed to them, but damnit get a grip. We have more to accomplish. Sitting on our laurels, letting Tea Party Candidates, WWE CEO's and Birthers wins seats across the nation can only set progress back.
We can settle the definition of "what is progressive" for a later date.

Taegan Goddard's Political Wire with the "Polling Disconnect of the Day":
A new CNN poll finds a plurality of Americans believe Congressional Republicans have better solutions than Democrats to our economic mess, 47% to 41%.
However, Greg Sargent digs into the poll's internals and finds that more respondents blame those same Congressional Republicans for our current economic problems, 41% to 35%.
This says it all. Uhmerika the contradictory. When people say we are a "Center Right Nation" I am not sure the nation actually even knows what that means. I mean wtf is up with this polling? The Republican policies are to blame for our economic downfall everyone gets that, but those same people think the Republicans can fix it...(how bad has the Dems messaging been jeebus).
That's like saying "Well you messed it up, we trust you to reverse your mistakes." If those polled were paying any attention they would recognize the Republicans plan, make that pledge, is do keep on messing everything up. So perhaps there is no disconnect, the country really is hell bent on destroying itself! Hooray!
I get it now! Let's just ruin the nation and start over from scratch, I mean that works so well for other nations right? We could start by making everything private. Super private industry, schools, transportation, health services, the internet, urinals, parks, zoos, breathing, and why not? I mean it makes perfect sense. All we would have left after the bodies disperse is the very important serious people. People like Dick Cheney. Running about, shooting friends in the face because who needs law enforcement when you have the money and automatic machine guns? Man this sounds awesome. Our country is genius. Oh and no sex because sex makes the devil come through the teevee box waves. Uhmerika we can do this, just show up and vote GOP in November!

It was a roller coaster of a weekend. The wedding went rather well despite a few hitches and by the end of the night we all joined in booze, dance and celebration (luckily they kept the cliches song to a minimum). The Redskins looked horrible not even arriving for the second half against the Rams. The mother f-in Rams! So it is back to being my normal Redskins self; zero expectations. My Sunday night didn't go too well and this is when I have to be honest with you all. As some of you might remember my family has fallen on hard times like many across the nation. I have been lucky enough to remain employed, however my father's job is on the brink. Last night I received more unwelcome news. So starting today I will be placing a "Donate" button at the bottom of every post for a couple of weeks. Call it a "Fall Fund Drive". House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md) was neither humored nor pleased with Stephen Colbert's recent testimony before the House Judiciary committee's subcommittee on immigration, calling it an embarrassment for the Comedy Central host.
"I think his testimony was not appropriate," said Hoyer, during an appearance on "Fox News Sunday." "I think it was an embarrassment for Mr. Colbert more than the House."
"You asked me, Chris [Wallace] whether the testimony was appropriate," he added. "I think it was not appropriate."
At least Nancy Pelosi gets it.
"He's an American, right?" said Pelosi. "He came before the committee. He has a point of view. He can bring attention to an important issue like immigration. I think it's great."
Colbert is a satirist and very good one at that. What he did in front of Congress was point out the absurdity of the Republicans and (some) the Democrats arguments. Sometimes the truth is hard to swallow especially when you are the butt of the joke. Hoyer not appreciating Colbert's style reflects more on his inability as a leader more than anything else.
I think Colbert's appearance before Congress was refreshing and he actually did make a point. He broke down the right's paranoid, fear the brown people rhetoric while pointing out the ineptitude of Democrats in Congress. He was brought in to disprove a common thread amongst the right wing: illegal immigrants are stealing jobs and are free-loaders. Immigrants legal or not are an intricate part of the farming industry in America. Colbert conveyed that which is no small feat and I applaud that.

Look, I'm glad Blue Dogs don't just want to cut taxes for the wealthy with more deficit financing, but their priorities don't make any sense. They want to cut spending (which improves the economy) in order to pay for breaks for the wealth (which doesn't improve the economy).
And not only does this fail as a policy matter, but Blue Dogs have managed to thread a political needle in a way that runs counter to public attitudes twice -- they're fighting for tax cuts for millionaires the public doesn't support, and they'll pay for it with cutting programs the public does support.

I'll assume that's a rhetorical question.
That's the inside-out-upside-down logic of the Blue Dog Democrats. I think it is safe to say at this point they should be called Wankstas. They don't really stand for anything, but the rich and corporations. Foot Fall
It is fall in Chicago. Light jackets and light scarves. College football has been on all day. Last night's wedding went swimmingly, despite some early stress my lady pulled through for the bride with some wedding coordinator type stuff. The reception was at the Chicago Firehouse where we enjoyed a decent meal and $10 drinks...ouch. Luckily the after party had an open bar and we danced (well I limped) the night away. More festivities tonight. I am spent, but will stick it out.
Tomorrow is Redskins v. Rams if we blow that game I don't know what I'll do. Apologies for the sucky blogging, this, however is some b.s.

One of the benefits of my new phone is that I have the option to download a ton of sweet applications. My favorite of late is the NPR app as it gives instant access to news (not always fair & balanced, but better than most), interesting programs and the World Cafe. On my train ride back home yesterday I was able to listen to Mumford & Sons on the World Cafe. It was ideal and I highly recommend it. Speaking of NPR how cool is it that not only do they keep up with the times, they are kind of...hip.

All right so last night started the ball rolling for my latest project. I decided after making myself a sammich to head to the local overlord of technology and picked up a headset. "What pray tell may that be for Frank?" you ask. Well my fellow ragers I can tell you it won't be for late hours of W.O.W. while guzzling cans of Mountain Dew and sobbing over missed bonus points. This makes a lot of sense given the differing nominating strategies the two parties have pursued. Democrats are obsessed with finding candidates who fit their districts, often recruiting anti-abortion, pro-gun candidates for rural districts. Republicans are increasingly nominating extremely conservative candidates everywhere, following the rising tide of tactical radicalism in the GOP.
It's quite natural, then, that there would be a lot of voters who like Republicans but find their Democrat candidate acceptable, or their Republican candidate unacceptable. In general, the importance of having a candidate who ideologically matches the views of the median voter is wildly overrated. But it's not worth nothing, and this could be a case where the Democrats' fealty to the old belief in representing the center pays dividends around the margin.
Many times in sports you hear post-game interviews where players reflect that "it wasn't so much them, it was us, we killed ourselves." This mid-term election, if it ends as many have predicted with the Democrats ceding the House, will be the fault of the Democratic Party more than anything. People were desperate for change after the eight years Bush had wrought. The Democrats have made small strides in various aspects of our government and society, however it has yet to be the visible tide many expected.
In any case, I am not one to ogle polls or obsess over marginal swings in either direction, but this is the most promising one I have seen of late. The election might be teetering back and forth more than we thought. If only the Democrats would find a strategy that sticks...

Half way through the week and I am beginning to walk a bit better. I am not sure, however if it is the prescriptions the doctor gave me or of my own volition. Good to know the GOP still hates teh gay so much they won't fund the pew pew. Till the election we will now be bombarded with "Obama didn't use the bully pulpit","Democrats are spineless", "Republicans surge to protect America from socialism!" And other assorted misconstrued nonsense, but one thing I would have liked to have seen... Lady Gaga doing an impromptu fuggin concert on the steps of Capitol Hill in protest. We're all on drugs. Well at least I am. Last night was splendid as I popped my "happy pills" and masked my pain away. The lady and I (well really just me she was on her computer working, who does that?) watched the season premiers of Chuck and Castle, both were satisfying. Doctor Revisited
Just got back from the doctor. I waited over an hour to see the Medicine Man, no I am not kidding he looks like the Medicine Man, and I walked out with prescriptions for some heavy stuff. Two of which are simply to mask the pain and discomfort, the other to offer minor relief during the day. He stated that when it comes to my particular back injury all signs point to "take pills and wait it out."
He also said something similar to this:
A bursa is a thin sac of tissue that contains fluid to lubricate the area and reduce friction. The bursa is a normal structure. The body will even produce a bursa in response to friction.
Think of a bursa like this. If you press your hands together and slide them against one another, you produce some friction. In fact, when your hands are cold you may rub them together briskly to create heat from the friction. Now imagine that you hold in your hands a small plastic sack that contains a few drops of salad oil. This sack would let your hands glide freely against each other without a lot of friction.
Followed by "yours is damaged!"
It is always nice to have a doctor not b.s. with you and luckily my doctor tells it like it is. I have to basically rest, attempt to walk as normal as possible and if after a week I still do not feel vast improvement I should begin physical therapy. The ironic part, of course, was that I was doing the best thing possible for my back by working my core, however that is how inevitably I was hurt. I wish there was a nifty metaphor I could insert here to tie this post together with our current politic landscape, but I am at a loss. Thems the bursa sacs ya'll!

Wow. What a game. Not the type of game I expected. Not the type of ending I wanted, although I saw I hate to say I saw it coming. Leaving the Texans within 20 points with of any team is dangerous. Point in case. The Skins came out tough and offensively minded we had a great deal of success, however we had the same problem last year...no touchdowns. Those early dominate drives that resulted only in field goals now look to be the killer in our overtime loss. Still I had a great time with my lady and old friends in the Redskins bar. FightforOldDC is a great gathering and I am ecstatic I found it. Today is an odd day. I am heading to the doctor to get my back checked out. I feel a bit better today, perhaps I just need to be excited about football to cure my ailing back...

Redskins Sunday and Ouch
Woke up today and had my lady look at my back. She took one look and noticed my spine is crooked. I knew my hips had shifted, but the spine thing is a new revelation. I guess it makes sense. I visit the doctor tomorrow and hopefully a physical therapist after that. I am lucky enough to have a couple of friends who are pt's and their advice so far has been sound. The worst part of all of this, I walk around like a gimp. My back spasms randomly especially while sitting and I have yet to relax comfortably since Wednesday. On Friday we are attending a wedding, boy is that gonna be a sight...

It's Friday! And I am incapacitated! Yup, it's true. I tweaked my back last week while doing my workout and thought on Wednesday that things were better. So my genius of a self decided to do a "light" workout. FAIL. I pulled up limp as the pain in my back only worsened. Hooray! This morning I woke up, got out of bed, dragged a comb across my head and was writhing about in pain. Looked in the mirror and noticed my hips are at an angle. That's right. I am lopsided. Apparently the pulled muscle in my back has rendered me a hunchback. It is no fun. This weekend is Voter Registration at the park. As much as I loathe the White Sox...someone has to get the Cell to vote with a race this close in Illinois for Senate, every single one counts. I will limp to victory!

Jim Matheson: An Experiment in Blue Dogology
Greg Sargent over at the Plum Line was kind enough to phone a leading Blue Dog in the Democratic Caucus, Rep. Jim Matheson of Utah's 2nd District. The result was an entry into the mind of a Blue Dog and their faulty logic.
Sargent:
Matheson's opposition sheds some light on why Dems are hesitant to take this vote, even though Pelosi is pushing hard for it and many think it could prove a big winner for Dems. Moderates don't think it's a political winner at all, because it will be portrayed as a tax hike, and letting taxes go up even on those over $250,000 is a bad idea in a recession.
"I don't think it's the right vote," Matheson told me, adding that he only backed holding a vote on letting all the tax cuts expire. Matheson said a vote on just the middle class tax cuts is tantamount to letting the tax cuts for the wealthy expire.
"You're letting other rates go up on January 1st," he said. "I think we're better off if we don't do that."
Matheson also disputed the significance of national polls that show strong support for letting the tax cuts for the rich expire, suggesting this could be a good national issue for Dems.
"I dont know that it applies in my district or other battleground districts," Matheson said, adding that a vote for continuing just the tax cuts for the middle class would easily be portrayed as a tax hike.
"Allowing tax rates to go up when we're in the midst of a recovery from a deep recession, I don't think that plays well in a lot of districts," Matheson said.
But who pray tell is calling it a "tax hike?" I will let that be, it goes on, with a revealing end quote by Matheson.
Matheson also argued, as many Republicans do, that the group of those making over $250,000 is larger than many think. "I recognize $250,000 is a lot of money for an individual to make for an individual," he said. "But we're also talking about businesses. That's not a lot of money for small businesses."
Asked how many people in his district fell into the above-$250,000 category, Matheson answered: "I don't know the answer to that."
Gives you a sense of why it's so hard for Dem leaders to stage this vote, even though all signs indicate it's a political winner for the party overall.
Here is my issue with Matheson's argument, first many economists posit that continuing with the higher bracket Bush tax cuts are bad for our economy. It doesn't not help our country during a recession to have them NOT expire. Second and the most telling is his response to Sargent's question of "how many people fell into the above-$250,000 category."
I am not from Utah. I have no stake in Utah, but by the powers of teh Google and a simple search for median income for the 2nd District of Utah, I found the following:
Income District
Median income - $55,863
Poverty rate - 6.5%
Below $25,000 - 14.9%
$25,000-$50,000 - 26.3%
$50,000-$100,000 - 34.6%
$100,000-$200,000 - 17.7%
$200,000 or more - 4.1%
Now one would assume Rep. Matheson would perhaps know this considering he represents the 2nd district. And one would assume it is in his best interest to understand the median income levels and the percentages that would be effected by the so-called "tax hike" in question. Turns out if Matheson voted to extend only the middle class tax cuts the "tax hike" would only effect 4% of his constituency. 4%! But Matheson must know this, he has represented the 2nd District for the past nine years after all. So he is either being completely disingenuous when he says he "doesn't know the answer to that" or willfully naive. I will let you decide.
This is the most frustrating thing about the self-proclaimed fiscally responsible Blue Dogs. Even when proposed with a clear economic and beneficial policy for their constituency, they would rather defend the 4% of their district who would never spend the money anyway. Wonder why that is?

Karl Rove meets the wrath of the monster he created.

Dan Riehl, a conservative who blogs at the site RiehlWorldView.com, went the farthest in his attacks on Rove, calling on Fox News to "suspend" him and "investigate" reports that he tried to tip the balance for Castle in behind-the-scenes meetings with tea partiers in Delaware last year.
"Especially given his comments on Fox News tonight, until this is resolved, it seems impossible to trust Rove as an objective analyst," Riehl wrote. "In terms of the conservative movement, we should not simply ignore him, but proactively work to undermine Rove in whatever ways we can, given his obvious willingness to undermine us."
The fringe elements of the right wing party became self-aware and after stoking, tempting and encouraging these vapid neo-cons; Rove is finally getting his just due. He used them to perpetuate a policy of fear, it's karma that they are turning on him.
If this is a sign of things to come, however we should all be on watch. Yes, in the interim the O'Donnell win bodes well for Democrats in Delaware. In the long run, it's discomforting we have one of our political parties losing its in-fighting to the extremists. Rove is reaping what he sowed and although part of me revels in its irony, I can't but help be reminded of the Volkisch Movement.
